Sterile Technique Required
- 01Work in a still-air box or in front of a flow hood. Never in open, moving air.
- 02Wipe the injection port and your work surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol before starting.
- 03Flame-sterilize the needle to glowing red, then let it cool, before every draw. Use only the sterile needles provided, kept capped until use.
- 04Wipe the inoculation port of your grain or substrate jar with alcohol before injecting.
- 05Inject, withdraw, and re-flame between jars. Never set a bare needle down on any surface.
- 06Keep the sealed syringe refrigerated until use and use it within its viability window.
Contamination caused by skipped steps, open-air work, reused or unsterilized needles, or technique error is not covered — that’s on the grower, not the genetics. We’re guaranteeing what we ship, not how it’s handled after.

About this isolate
Hericium americanum — bear's head tooth — is a close relative of lion's mane, forming long, branching tendrils of icicle-like spines rather than a single rounded head. It is a hardwood species, fruiting on beech, oak, maple, and hickory, and is prized both for the table and for its striking form.
HA-001 was found dried inside a hickory in the off-season in Upshur County, West Virginia, then revived in culture — a testament to its resilience. This line produces dense flushes and carries the toughness of an isolate that survived where others wouldn't.
