Sterile Technique Required
- 01Work in a still-air box or in front of a flow hood. Never in open, moving air.
- 02Wipe the injection port and your work surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol before starting.
- 03Flame-sterilize the needle to glowing red, then let it cool, before every draw. Use only the sterile needles provided, kept capped until use.
- 04Wipe the inoculation port of your grain or substrate jar with alcohol before injecting.
- 05Inject, withdraw, and re-flame between jars. Never set a bare needle down on any surface.
- 06Keep the sealed syringe refrigerated until use and use it within its viability window.
Contamination caused by skipped steps, open-air work, reused or unsterilized needles, or technique error is not covered — that’s on the grower, not the genetics. We’re guaranteeing what we ship, not how it’s handled after.

About this isolate
Fistulina hepatica — beefsteak fungus — is a remarkable bracket species that looks and bleeds like raw meat, with a tart, citrus-edged flavor unlike any other mushroom. It grows on oak and chestnut, often low on the trunk or from the root base, and is far less commonly cultivated than the hardwood gourmets — a rarity in any culture library.
FH-BUB was collected from a hollow at the base of an old maple in Upshur County, West Virginia, fruiting from the wound at the tree's foot. A striking and unusual specimen. For cultivation guidance, growers can refer to the expired patent on Fistulina hepatica cultivation.
