Chicken of the Woods

Laetiporus cincinnatus - the white-pored chicken of the woods - is the rose-and-cream relative of the familiar orange bracket, distinguished by its pale underside and its habit of fruiting from the root base and ground around hardwoods rather than high on the trunk. Famous for a meaty texture that genuinely resembles chicken, it is a prized wild edible and an uncommon one in cultivation.

LC-001 was collected from the base of an old maple in Upshur County, West Virginia. A true wild specimen of a species rarely offered as a culture at all.
